On 25th February I was reading "The Times of India", and my favourite page of the national newspaper is " the times of ideas".
Just two days before the martyrdom day of Shaheed Chandrasekhar Azad, story of another young martyr Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar who was hanged along Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Shaheed Shivram Hari Rajguru is being published , questioning about his level of nationalism and role in Indian freedom struggle.
The statement of TOI reads as--" He came into police net on 15 April 1929. This was the first time a revolutionary leader was caught with live bombs, chemicals, explosive formulae, practice pistol and several proscribed books."
Also given that , "he gave statement to the police. He jailed with the ones who had accepted pardon, and then punish them.
It might be a revolutionary strategy, but unfortunately Sukhdev's statement hurt the revolutionary movement in the long term. The police used his statement to demoralise and persuade other revolutionaries to become government witness".
A comparison is also done with another young man Hans Raj Vohra who decided to become a government witness. According to him , ""if the leaders couldn't steadfast to their principles, he saw little sense in continuing to be loyal"", This statement by Vohra separates him from Sukhdev .
Vohra was provided with all the facilities by Britishers for his coward act against India, While Sukhdev was hanged because he refused to betray his nation.
Sukhdev's commitment for the country to make it free from British and stood to his values till his last breath makes him a great soul, who fights for his country's independence keeping aside his personal comforts.
A great salute to the martyrs like him who had refused to accept the sovereignty of forieng power and live their short life extra large and created history by their blood.
